A basic guide to implementing
Character Counts! in the business
Values Are Different Than
Ethics
-
“Values” refers
to all important beliefs.
-
“Ethics” refers
only to beliefs about moral right and wrong.
Demonstrate Integrity
Be Honest
Keep Promises
Be Loyal
Tolerance of people and opinions
People judged on their abilities and their
character rather than their race, religion, gender, or political ideology.
Intolerance, prejudice, and discrimination are
disrespectful.
Civility is a lubricant for human interaction
and a basic sign of respect.
“please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me”
acknowledge the importance of others as not merely things but as
individuals entitled to respect.
Responsibility
requires us to recognize that what we do — and what we don’t do
— matters,
and that we are morally responsible for the
consequences of our choices.
Be Consistent
Listen; Be Open
Be Careful
Making Judgments About Others
Treat People
Equally and Equitably
Follow Fair
Procedures
Consciously increase positive messages about
the importance of good character in the
workplace and in the
home.
Vision Statement
The Village of Itasca embraces the values incorporated
in the CHARACTER COUNTS!
framework and believes in the principle
that good character counts.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Itasca CHARACTER COUNTS!

character throughout
the community

We’re all rowing in the
same direction
“to bring up your child in the way he should go, travel
that way yourself once in a while.”
